SUMMERTIME FUN ??!!

This is the view from my pool.  My back yard needs some TLC - this is only a small...very small portion of my backyard.  The older I get the more I question my motives!!!!  Everything you "get", purchase, receive, etc... .you have to maintain.  I have so much to maintain, I dont have any time to enjoy ----hence the picture from the deck of the pool.  I was NOT swimming or in any way enjoying the luxury of the pool.. I was pressure washing the deck furniture!!! aaahhhhh

While I am maintaining - this is what Mr. Nickel Bill and Nephew Nickel Bill do.....watch tv?
This is 4 squares of my new creation.  A Quilt that is made of houses!  I saw this is a book and I am trying to re-make it :)  I am using Batik fabric - I like it -  I tend to lean towards more dark, rustic-looking fabrics.
This is quilt I just finished - I actually like it!  Hated working on it.  It is made of fabric that I won in a quilting contest.  I did not get to choose the fabrics.  However, I wanted to make a quilt and making one with fabric already on hand is economically feasible for me! hehehe  So here it is.  and I like it!!!  I had a pattern for one square, so I mad a square.  I liked the fact that it turned out o.k. considering my "lack of patience, need it done now" attitude!  It was quick and easy! so I made a bunch of 'em and this is how it turned out!

Nickel Bill News

I need new furniture for my deck…..uh…..decks. I have a set of wonderful deck furniture that I bought….lord…13 years ago. still nice but the dogs scratch up the cushions every summer. So I have to buy new….which…..that is alright I guess, but I get tired of spending money on stuff that I don’t WANT to spend money on Smile I think I need some outdoor furniture that does not require cushions!

Got my garden in the ground and I have some little green tomatoes growing!!! YIPPEED. I need these for my diet! that is something else I hate to spend money on! Food~! It just goes down the toilet – if ya know what I mean! big ole waste! And paper products….something else that “just goes down the toilet”. hmmmmm

I guess money has been on my mind. We are always R E A L L Y active in the summertime and it has only just begun. My husband, a group of friends with their kids, and my step-daughter went canoeing this morning (fishing) is the more operative word here. This will be an ALL DAY trip for them so that meant – buying enough items to fill up the ice chests! THIS IS EXPENSIVE. AND……..my daughter will want to do something today so that SHE ALSO feels special….which means money again! Smile

OCD HERE…… canoeing, buying that “special feeling”, outdoor furniture, weed killer, groceries, gasoline, dog food, I’m already exhausted from shopping, and I haven’t even gotten outta my boxers yet!!!!!!

Hope you have a great day!

Prom 2011

OK, my daughter is a sophmore but her boyfriend in a senior.  Prom was this past Saturday evening.  Rain, bad weather, etc. but they still seemed to have a wonderful time -- so they say :)
Dinner, lots and lots of pictures at our house, his house, at the state capital grounds and probably everywhere in between - will have to post some.  They are beautiful!

Also I was able to get some quilting done this weekend.  My "friendship" quilt now has a border.  This border has been a struggle for me.  I didn't want to break out any NEW fabric.  I wanted to use the leftovers from making the stars.  All of the fabric that went into making this quilt was free.  I had won it in a little quilting contest.  There didn't seem to be that much left over for the border - or the backing - for that matter! But I made due.  I LOVE the quilt top....the backing???? not so much :)

I will also put a picture of the quilt this evening.  I started quilting it yesterday.  I couldn't decide how to quilt it, so I went with my old faithful, feathering.  I love feathers.

pictures shortly.

Tornados!!!

My family and I live in extremely "rural" Arkansas, and I can tell you that tornados are a natural part of our existance in the springtime.  This week, though, has been uncharacteristically active with tornados.   Monday evening we had to "hit the hallway" twice.  Luckily the rough weather they predicted for Tuesday evening wasn't in our area, so we had a little break :)

The break still didn't make it any easier to sleep though.

I checked on my friends through Facebook and it seemed like everyone was doing the same thing as me --- glued to the television watching our local weatherman!!

Needless to say, I haven't gotten any sewing done in the past 2 or 3 days.  I can not wait until I can hit my machine and maybe show some pictures on here!
