Prom 2011

OK, my daughter is a sophmore but her boyfriend in a senior.  Prom was this past Saturday evening.  Rain, bad weather, etc. but they still seemed to have a wonderful time -- so they say :)
Dinner, lots and lots of pictures at our house, his house, at the state capital grounds and probably everywhere in between - will have to post some.  They are beautiful!

Also I was able to get some quilting done this weekend.  My "friendship" quilt now has a border.  This border has been a struggle for me.  I didn't want to break out any NEW fabric.  I wanted to use the leftovers from making the stars.  All of the fabric that went into making this quilt was free.  I had won it in a little quilting contest.  There didn't seem to be that much left over for the border - or the backing - for that matter! But I made due.  I LOVE the quilt top....the backing???? not so much :)

I will also put a picture of the quilt this evening.  I started quilting it yesterday.  I couldn't decide how to quilt it, so I went with my old faithful, feathering.  I love feathers.

pictures shortly.

Tornados!!!

My family and I live in extremely "rural" Arkansas, and I can tell you that tornados are a natural part of our existance in the springtime.  This week, though, has been uncharacteristically active with tornados.   Monday evening we had to "hit the hallway" twice.  Luckily the rough weather they predicted for Tuesday evening wasn't in our area, so we had a little break :)

The break still didn't make it any easier to sleep though.

I checked on my friends through Facebook and it seemed like everyone was doing the same thing as me --- glued to the television watching our local weatherman!!

Needless to say, I haven't gotten any sewing done in the past 2 or 3 days.  I can not wait until I can hit my machine and maybe show some pictures on here!

Quilting

I am learning to quilt.  I began last summer; summer of 2010.  I don't know why it took me sooo long to pick up this craft.  I have been sewing since I was 10 years old.  My mother bought ny my first sewing machine at that time.  It's an old metal Brother machine- I love it.  Still use it for my quilt tops.

I have officially completed 6 quilts.  They are not all bedsize quilts.  I like quilting lap throws.  At least that is what I call them :) They stay folded up on the sofa and when you need a blanket on your lap you throw one of these on. I would say they are the perfect size.  My domestic machine will not quilt anything very much larger and I DO love to quilt my own quilts.  They are NOT perfect by any means but I love the way they turn out.
